1 on 1 Boxing Fitness
In search of a break from my mundane elliptical/running cardio routine, I embarked on my first boxing training session at 1 on 1 Boxing Fitness.
I got to the gym a few minutes before my workout and found owner and founder Chris Terry already busy training other clients. When he was done, he called me into the gym area, wrapped my hands, started his stop watch and we got down to business. We started with jumping jacks, lunges, squats and mountain climbers to increase my heart rate. Quickly after that, Chris helped me into my boxing gloves and showed me how to stand and punch. I have never been coordinated, so thankfully Chris was very patient. In no time, I was “hooking" and "jabbing" the air. Chris is big on form, so he was constantly encouraging me to tuck my chin and pivot my back leg.
After I learned the basics, I was able to practice on the punching bag, now that was hard work. At first, I couldn't figure out how to hit the bag without making it move, which is the whole point, but towards the end, I got the hang of it. Tired yet? Well, we didn’t stop there. Next up, 1 on 1 Boxing Fitness. This was my favorite part of the workout. All of the form, balance, strength, posture and concentration began to make sense and I could really tell I was getting a great workout. After our boxing session, we did some abs work to strengthen my core and complete my first 1 on 1 boxing session.
I would highly recommend 1 on 1 Boxing Fitness to anyone who is looking for a fun and affordable workout. The gym is fairly new and it’s conveniently located on the Tempe/Mesa border. I plan on signing up this month for two workouts a week. I told Chris I want killer arms; let’s see if we can do it.
Visit 1on1boxingfitness.com for more details. Also, Chris's deals will be featured on Spa Fit Finder when we launch so stay tuned for that.
